The Paper People

My time spent with the Maasai in Tanzania has resulted in rich conversations that shine a bright light on some dark topics. This series was inspired by the Maasai phrase for foreigners
"The Paper People" as it is insightful in many ways, calling into context critical global topics such as pollution, trade agreements, conservation, land rights, and gender equity.

The stylized slabs are made from up-cycled paper pulp with a mood hinting at doomed civilizations starkly juxtaposed by rich embellishments to signify ingenuity and an effortlessly chic aura. Through the inventive use of the endless barrage of junk-mail and waste, I reveal that even the most mundane of resources are used in fascinating ways.
